Important Metal and Steel Building Organizations

There are a number of important organizations in the United States that arte essential for helping the metal and steel building industries with quality guidelines and performance-enhancing research.
A leading organization in the industry is the American Iron and Steel Institute or AISI. This group has its roots in the American Iron Institute founded in the mid-1800’s. The Institute has been key in its formulations of correct steel building design codes along with their proper applications. These are particularly applied to cold-formed (parts produced without heat) steel components. The AISI oversees most structural components of a steel building system, such as secondary components and wall and roof applications. The organization has produced a manual for over 60 years that is the recognized authority on cold-formed design. AISI is also involved in many aspects of technical education and in the overall promotion of the steel; building industry.
The Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures (CCFSS) is a key organization for development of increasing support for the use of cold-formed steel buildings. The CCFSS integrates the known resources of universities, manufacturers, advisory panels, and the federal government  to help further cold-formed steel improvements and popularity. The center is located at a satellite campus of the University of Missouri.
The Light Gauge Structural Institute, or LGSI, is an association of manufacturers of light gauge framing. This organization has produced a handbook dealing with important load-bearing capabilities for certain critical steel sections. LGSI also sponsors announced inspections of member manufacturing facilities to verify performance characteristics in the production of certain essential materials.
The 100 year old National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) includes many roofing contractors in its membership but also includes steel building manufacturers and suppliers in its organization. This group primarily distributes Technical information on new and existing roofing materials and design application.
The Metal Construction Association (MCA) promotes the use of metal in any construction. This group sponsors a metal building trade show yearly and recognizes meat building projects that are considered outstanding. MCA also tracks emerging marketing areas for metal buildings and is headquartered in Illinois.
The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association, or NAIMA, is located in Virginia. This organization represents most major manufacturers of insulation. NAIMA also sets guidelines and safety applications for insulation products.
The Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA) is located in Ohio. This organization counts contractors and erectors of metal buildings in its membership. MBCEA features a decentralized program that allows members in a certain area to meet and discuss issues and share information. MBCEA also provides industry standard legal documentation for client/contractor activities and agreements.
